Don Tompsett

Her ashtray spill caused shockwaves
to ricochet off the new sheetrock walls
of her renovated basement. Two days

of hammer and chopsaw noise
orchestrated by rock and roll radio blasters
have created room for more stuff. Stammered

gripes of her husband started the over-run.
His copy of the blueprint didn't include racket,

and now he wishes Rome's whipper-snappers
hadn't stopped with Jesus
as they murdered the long-haired carpenters
with their own wood and nails.
